Education is a prime need for an enriching career. But just learning won’t take you where you aspire to reach. Smart decision plays a vital role in deciding careers. One must know varied fields, technicalities, and ways to approach the particular area. As per studies, 30% of the students are not aware of the options present in the application form due to lack of information. This results in admission to an unexpected college and a wrong turn in the initial phase of their career. Studies also show that only 2 out of 10 students/parents are satisfied with their college allotment. To help the students, a Bhopal based startup – CollegeKhabri has come to the rescue of many students.
CollegeKhabri is an online, end-to-end college counselling platform for students launched by a college dropout Arshi Khan. It guides students from Tier 2 and 3 cities of India. The startup claims to have counselled around 1,700 students within three months and has generated revenue of 30 lakhs in a short time span.
CollegeKhabri offers two types of professional counselling services – Counselling Guidance and Counsellor Analytics.
In counselling guidance, the counsellor assists the students while filling the choices of colleges with a continuous simultaneous guidance. He ensures that the counselling application is error-free. This can be done in two ways. The first way involves filling the form from the student’s end, where the counsellor guides the student over the phone. While, the second way is where the counsellor processes the form from his end, and the student is required to send the necessary documents.
In counsellor analytics, the counsellor acts as a proxy and fills the form on behalf of the student. He/she makes use of the past year’s analysis and helps the student get his dream institution. These counsellors have a minimum of 4-5 years of experience. They are well-versed with the nitty-gritties of counselling and use tips and tricks to help the student get the college of his choice. Such allocation depends upon choice filling strategies through different rounds of counselling. Analytical counsellors analyze the scores and analysis of available college-branch options.
The startup claims that there is an accuracy of 67% in allotment of colleges when students do the choice filling. Whereas, if the student goes for counsellor analytics, the efficiency in the allocation of colleges raises to 96%.
Arshi did not have an easy road while setting up the CollegeKhabri. She faced many challenges like building a team, getting financial assistance, and setting up tech support. CollegeKhabri was launched in Tier 2 cities because it was easier to get an office space and a cheaper workforce. Amidst all these challenges, the startup counselled around 19,000 students in three months. Of these, 1,700 signed up for counselling services. That is a significant number to touch in such a short duration. The startup, which was launched with revenue of Rs.25,000, made a revenue of Rs. 30,00,000 in three months.
