How often have you found yourself stranded in the middle of nowhere? A flat tyre or an engine breakdown and for miles no help. This is not only frustrating but also annoying as there is no help and you don’t know what to do. At many instances, the situation can also lead to panic. But now as per a new initiative by IIT Delhi one can put their woes aside and contact them for hassle-free assistance. This service is available across 28 states and guess what women get first preference!
In 2014, a group of young boys from IIT Delhi had gone on a road trip to celebrate their placements. However, the celebrations did not last long and the bursting of a tyre led to a fatal end. After their death, the students and alumni of IIT Delhi initiated the Indian Road Safety Campaign (IRSC). This is a non-profit organisation which aims at creating awareness regarding road safety.
Since its foundation, they have worked with almost 1500 colleges and one of their projects which have been the talk of the town is iSafe Assist. This provides hassle-free service for 24/7 across 1795 cities and 28 states in India.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways along with other associations launched iSafe Assist on 31 May 2019 at the IIT Delhi campus. The team consists of approximately 6200 service providers round the clock. And yes, these service providers are authorised and go through a profound check as well.
The service is available but only via call on a toll-free helpline number. The number is 1800 419 7779. An app of the same is expected to be launched within the next 2 months.
How does iSafe Assist work?
In case your car suffers a tyre puncture, dead battery, engine breakdown or you run out of fuel and are in the middle of nowhere then what will you do? Well, here is what you can do.
If you have the helpline number, then call them. Your call will be answered by an operator in Gurugram. Tell him why you called and explain to him your problem along with your location, car number, make and model details. Also, let him know in case you need any medical assistance.
For availing iSafe Assist services you need to have a subscription to one of their packages. Worry not, they have different services to offer like fuel delivery, ambulance, roadside repair, assistance for a flat tyre, and emergency cab services. All you need to do is buy an emergency annual roadside assistance package. For two-wheelers, it starts at Rs 240 and for 4-wheelers it starts at Rs 720. If you have not subscribed to any of their services then you have an option of callout service which costs Rs 500.
Once all the questions are cleared regarding the subscription, the operator connects to the closest possible service provider, who in turn send quick assistance in 35-40 minutes. The mechanic who comes over helps to fix the problem and if the problem is big then may even order a cab for you to be dropped back home.
There are some special features as well. One is that they have is emergency medical care. If there is a need for an ambulance one can easily call on the toll-free number and the nearest ambulance service provider will help. Second is special services for women who travel between 10 pm to 5 am. Between this time if any woman driver has some issue then they can reach out to the operator and their call will be treated on first priority. It is also ensured that the service provider makes sure she gets a can to reach the destination safely.
